Okay, Reader, I'm embarrassed to say that before this summer, my knowledge of fútbol's World Cup was limited to Ted Lasso reruns and the magical Quidditch version from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

So while the FIFA World Cup competition travels through my country this year, I'm trying to learn more.

But here's one thing I realized.

It's not easy to make a goal.

First of all, the distance of the pitch is a hot & sweaty 100+ yards. Then people are running around you, at you, all the time. Finally (and this gets me), you can't use the most obvious tools--your hands!

Oh, and after all that, after you kick and run and boot the ball through the net, you earn a score of . . . one. 🥅

(Now, that one measly goal might win you the game, but it still seems undervalued to me for the amount of work.)

All this World Cup talk got me thinking about goals in general.

The big ones. The little ones. The little ones we have to achieve first to reach the bigger ones.
