๐Ÿ™€ when it's getting harder to trust your gut

when you don't trust your gut | Coach Darcy Eikenberg

Last week, my client T emailed me at 3:14 am โ€” not about a work fire, but about a decision he'd already made hours earlier and couldn't stop unmaking in his head.

Now, T is smart, successful, and on the outside, you'd call him confident and decisive. But what he asked in that panicked note really struck me.

"Darc--I just woke up with my brain in overdrive and needed to capture this thought and want to talk about it more. I'm finding it's getting harder and harder to trust my gut inside my company. What I've known to be true in the past isn't playing out the same way. I'm stumbling through a few decisions that sound good on paper, but I keep rethinking my options. It's whacking my confidence to shreds."

Then he asked this question:

"How do I get out of my head and start to trust my gut again?"

You might be asking this question, too, or wrestling with related thoughts, like:

  • I know what to do, but I can't seem to finally decide and move forward.
  • There are too many options, and I don't want to make a mistake.
  • Nothing's 100% clear, so I better do nothing and wait until it is.

So here's the thing . . .

Our brains, hearts & guts HATE uncertainty. It goes against our biology, where certainty = safety and protection. (If you're new here, watch my short vid on winning the battle of the brain.)

Persistent uncertainty isn't going anywhere. So we need to ask bigger questions to connect more deeply with what's important to us, and trust the decisions we make without second-guessing ourselves.

Sounds pretty, Darcy. But HOW????

There's an article I wrote just for this moment on what to do when you don't trust your gut. Read it here and please share with your colleagues and friends, too.

So how about YOU, Reader? If this has happened to you, hit REPLY and tell me (it reminds me I'm not alone out here!). And more importantly, tell me what you did, didn't do, or ask me a question that's on your mind--I'm always here to listen and help however I can. (My email is also private; no bots, AI tools or other humans read it.)

It pains me when I see smart, talented people second-guessing themselves, crashing their confidence and smashing their mental and physical health because they're trying to find "right" answers that may no longer exist. But it doesn't have to stay that way. We all have the power to regain trust of our gut, head, and heart. โค๏ธ Thanks for being here.

Always, Darcy
