Y'know, Reader, I've always said "readers are leaders and leaders are readers." And I try hard to live up to that saying by reading (or listening to) a LOT of books. As the holidays draw near, I like giving books, too. To me, a book isn't just about the content--it's a symbol that you're thinking about the person and who they are or what they might need. If you'd like some ideas for the folks on your list, here are a few books I read (or re-read) this year. Note: links are Amazon affiliate links, but you can find most of these at your favorite local bookstore or ask for them at your public library (don't forget to check online providers Libby or Hoopla too!). 🎁🎁🎁 ➡️ For the person who's thinking bigger (or wants to be): The Long Game: How to Be a Long-Term Thinker in a Short-Term World, by Dorie Clark. Dorie's a globally recognized speaker and thought leader, plus she's my own coach for my long-game. I've learned a ton the past few years while sitting on her living room floor and playing with her cats. 🐈⬛ 🎁🎁🎁 ➡️ For the professional who wants to create more great opportunities in their life: Give to Grow: Invest in Relationships to Build Your Business and Your Career by Mo Bunnell. Mo's a friend and former colleague (an actuary, of all things!) who's now become a top authority on business building. But Mo's no used car salesman--he's a master at teaching us how to generate more opportunites (sales or internal growth opportunties) while being authentically who we are. ❤️ Watch my interview with Mo here. 🎁🎁🎁 ➡️ For the person who needs some inspiration to bounce back: Ordinary Resilience: Rethinking How Effective Leaders Adapt and Thrive by Luis Velasquez. Here's another dear friend, who's also a brain tumor survivor turned c-suite advisor (so that's not intimidating at all.) Luis shows us how resilience can be accelerated in everyone, no matter what feels hard or uncomfortable 💥 Watch my conversation with Luis here. 🎁🎁🎁 ➡️ For the person ready to make this next year their best year: Red Cape Rescue: Save Your Career Without Leaving Your Job, by ME 😇. Yes, I'm biased, but hear me: this isn't a change-your-job book--it's a change-your-life book. I promise you that if you read it and apply even ONE of the 15 strategies I share, you'll dramatically take back control in key areas of your work--and life. I explain why I wrote it here. Over to you, Reader Now, I'd like to hear from YOU! What books stuck with YOU this year? Hit reply and tell me. Or want recommendations on other topics? Let me know and I'll share what I have! In the meantime, happy reading or listening (yes, that counts)! Enjoy the books, the season, and giving your favorites to your favorite people. They need you, and I do, too. Thanks for being here. 🎁

Every December, Reader, millions of professionals around the world agonize over one simple question: Should I give gifts to my coworkers? It's tricky to answer. But I'll try anyway. Here's my mental model for giving gifts at work. First of all, everybody appreciates appreciation. If you've had a great experience working with someone this year--or even if it's been a little bumpy but you've welcomed how they've shown up--consider some form of appreciation. I'm not a fan of giving food or drink...
