new toolkit: reset your communication 🗣️🗣️🗣️

Communication is confusing.

Y'know, Reader, it's said that former US Federal Reserve chair Alan Greenspan once quipped:

"I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I’m not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.”

Truth is, we misunderstand each other all the time.

And I'm increasingly convinced that many of our business communication practices—long taught and still enforced— no longer work.  

You know the ones I mean: the "rules" like KISS (keep it simple, stupid) or BLOT (bottom line on top). Decks vs. talks. Keeping it professional, not personal.  

Surprised? Yes, hearing and being heard is no longer simple. Good communication takes intention. It takes focus. It takes time.

It's not something to speed through anymore.

In fact, I believe 82% of our problems would be solved by taking MORE time to communicate, not less (based on my highly unscientific data.)

Don't believe me? How many times have you gotten a text message that you've had to answer with ???????? ?

In the coming year, I plan to write more about this topic. Rewrite the rules, maybe. Who knows?
