So Reader, my personal rule is that it's perfectly appropriate to say "Happy New Year" anytime until about the third week of January. So, here I go! However, there's one New Year's phrase that I detest: "New Year, New YOU."😳 Personally, I want to throttle any ad writer or online "guru" who's still using those words. It's lazy, AI-ish, over-used writing. ✍🏽 But that's not why I hate it so much. I hate it because it disrespects the Old You. You know the Old You--the one that got you here? The one that did all those great things you were proud of in 2025 (and you DID use my free Year-End Look Back to write them down, yes?) Yes, that wonderful person. Of course, Old You always hungers for growth and improvement, sometimes in a number of ways. And yup, maybe we WISH we could simply take an expensive supplement, join a class or buy a new piece of exercise equipment and become all shiny and new. But . . .we're not new. What we've done and where we've come from is part of who we are. ⚓️ Or as the Instagramians say, you've already survived 100% of your hardest days. 📆 Seriously--nothing magical happens between 11:59 pm December 31 and the stroke of midnight January 1. Unless YOU make the magic, of course. Magic which, my powerful Reader, you can make any time you want--not just in January. So to me, "New Year, New You" disrespects all you've done in the past to get where you are now. Don't fall for it—or be held back by it. And yes, you may have new things you'd like to do, or stuff to do more of or less of. Congrats. That means you're human, continually evolving and wanting a better life for yourself and those you love. I'm guessing that's why you're here, too. You want to make your life at work matter to your life. That's what I want for you, too. That's why all of my coaching, classes, and online resources exist. You don't need a New You this year, Reader. You just might need more support and love for that fabulous Old You that's done so much already—and has so much possibility ahead. ➡️ Hit REPLY and tell me what's on YOUR mind as this first month of the year moves forward. And no matter when you're reading this, happy new year, and let's keep soaring! P.S. Yes, there's still time to get your free Year-End Look Back tool, which helps you capture your lessons from 2025 before they're long forgotten. Get it here, free, and feel free to forward this note to a friend so they can get it, too. --D |
