Lately Reader, I hear more and more people wanting to cut back on the amount of news they consume, especially from TV. I get it. The world is certainly a noisy place right now. Truth is, the noise has been rising for a long, long time. And when the world's noisy, our brains are noisy. 🧠 A noisy brain = an exhausted one. That's why I don't have a TV in my house. Ten years ago when I first made this decision, people thought I was odd, 😳 including my family. My mom still sits across from where the TV would normally be, pointing an imaginary clicker at the picture on the wall, willing it to move. That's okay. I get that in our era of designing our living rooms around the tube (vs around living), my choice is still somewhat weird--although not as much as it used to be. It's not that I don't like TV, or that I'm some kind of hoity-toity screen snob. Not at all. It's just that I realized I was wasting all sorts of time and spending too much energy caught up in what someone else decided would be entertaining or newsworthy to me. I was tired of giving everyone else's ideas free rent in my brain.🛖 A decade ago, I wrote about my seemingly weirdo choice here. Reading through this article again, my reasons still remain valid—maybe even more so. Read "My Year Without TV (Now 10), and Lessons Learned Along the Way" So how 'bout you, Reader? Trying to reduce the amount of news noise in your big beautiful brain? Hit REPLY and tell me what you're experiencing and what you're choosing. As always, there's no right or wrong here, and never any judgment. I always love hearing from you. If you've been here for a while, you know one of the core lessons I teach is that you only control three things: what you say, what you do, and what you THINK. If you've been wanting to have a less busy and less tired brain, consider this permission to try turning the noise off and hear your own thoughts again.
