So Reader, if you're like a lot of the people I've been talking to in the past few days, you can hardly believe it's already SEPTEMBER!!! For some reason, it's a month that serves up as much emotional baggage as Starbucks serves pumpkin spice lattes (which apparently is over 20 million a year, so take that to trivia night. π) And year after year, I hear the same assumptions being made about September--that it's too late to start anything new:
Ever hear yourself say any of those things, Reader? Hit REPLY and tell me I'm not alone. π But here's what I know from guiding many professionals over the years--September is NOT too late to turn a corner and get more of what you want in your life at work. In fact, when I'm writing this, there are 84 days left until US Thanksgiving, and 119 left in the year (thanks, Chat.) So the truth is, there's time. β° Now, I get it. You're busy, and you look at your calendar and think that your time is already spoken for. But what if that's just an assumption? Because here's what's really going on. Your big, beautiful brain is lying to you. Its goal is always to keep you tucked away, safe, never risking (and so never gaining.) It means well, but. . . what's well for YOU? Here's the golden nugget that will change things for you: You can't "manage" time. Time will pass no matter what. All you can manage are your choices: what you do, what you say, and what you think. Or, in the case of making time for more of what you want, the choice may be in what you don't do, what you don't say, and what you don't think (or what you need to stop thinking.) There's so much pain around this issue right now, and it's not getting any easier. β€οΈβπ©Ή And it's challenging on your own to see any path out. As one of my mentors says, "you can't see the label from inside the jar." [I've been coaching hard on this with my private clients. If that needs to be you, schedule a quick chat here and let's zero in on what's helpful to YOU.] It's also why I've been looking at everything I've written about time over the past few years, especially this one that seems to resonate with my clients. βRead "Help! I Have Too Many Priorities! What to Do When This is You." β So how about YOU, Reader? Is making more time for yourself or your most important priorities an issue for you right now? Hit REPLY and tell me. Or, got it handled? Tell me that, too--I always love hearing from you and learn from every single person. Don't let the noise about time scarcity drown out your whispers telling you how you should be spending your days. Today's a good day to start. Thanks for taking the time to read and share this, and don't forget how much you matterβto me, and to the world. P.S. If someone shared this Insider note with you, I'd love to invite you to get your own from me every week! It's always free and hopefully fresh, fun, and . . . I've run out of F words and am NOT going to use ChatGPT to figure it out. Sign up here today, and please keep sharing! It's the best way that this work gets in the hands of others who need it. Thanks! --Darcy |
