If you're like most of the people I know, Reader, you've got a fresh idea bouncing around in your head. Maybe it's a way to improve something at work. Maybe it's a unique approach to an annoyance at home. Maybe it's something that seems completely frivolous and (gasp!) even FUN. We all have these fleeting ideas. It could be a project, a decision, a new career, a move to a new city, a novel solution to an old problem--anything. Take a second--what's yours? 🤔 But most of us talk ourselves out of the idea, telling ourselves things like:
That's where good ideas die. And so that's why I wanted to share a story with you today about a woman who gave herself permission to take an idea, and make it come to life. It's a story about someone who could have talked herself out of it, easily. It's about someone hesitant to invest in herself--time, money, energy --during a time when that seemed indulgent. That someone is my sister, Dana, and her idea was to take a story from her own family life and turn it into a fun book for the littles in our lives. By her own account, Dana didn't think of herself as creative and never expected she'd write a book. But she gave herself the chance, and that chance has turned into Hank the Brave, a heartwarming kid's book that shows how bravery doesn't have to be loud or bold. Watch our conversation or read the transcript here. So how about you, Reader? What's the idea that's been floating in your brain for a while--the one it's past time to help it come to life? Hit REPLY and tell me about it. I'm happy to cheer you on or answer questions you have about what's getting in the way (including your brain.) In a world where we're often told DON'T, we need more voices encouraging us to DO. After all, the idea you have inside you might just be something that's going to make a difference for someone else. Remember, somebody out there needs you--so who are you to hide? Keep soaring, and thanks for being here! P.S. If you have littles in your life—or know someone who does—check out Hank the Brave as a holiday present! I'm biased, but I think it's a fun book with an important message when there's so much fear buzzing about. Check it out! --D |
