It's that time of year again, Reader--the time when we send our young people out of the comfortable halls of academia into the wild world of work. I don't envy those grads. 'Cause from what I can tell, they're getting loads of advice. And not all of it's good.
That's bananas. π Advice like that keeps us stuck, stalled, waiting, wondering. Or there's this:
[Insert buzzer sound here.] For most people, those actions are what I call "productivity fakers." They sound like we're doing something useful. They feel busy. But too often, they're just us deferring, delaying, or dancing in place. ππΌ So I'm loathe to give the graduating class too much advice, lest they tell the good from the terrible. Instead, I'd rather get them in action π β π₯. βRead my article: Advice for the Graduating Class (& What Weβre Asking of You Now)β So what about you, Reader? What do you want to ask the next generation? Hit REPLY and tell me. Or share the advice you've gotten--the good, bad and ugly. As always, I happily await hearing from you. π And if you or someone you love is in the Class of '25--or if you're graduating from one stage of life or work to another, remember: we need you now more than ever in our world of work. Thanks for being here! P.S. Parents of young adults tell me that my book, "Red Cape Rescue: Save Your Career Without Leaving Your Job," helps early careerists understand themselves and their workplaces better. I wrote it for the mid-to-late career person who's feeling stuck, but the book has now become a guide to taking control over your career, no matter what's happening in your company and your life. If there's someone new to the workforce in your life--or if you'd like a jump start on your career--please get it from your favorite bookseller here. OR, if you want it signed and sent directly from me, hit REPLY and we'll make the arrangements. --D β |
